Every day Washington's cuts go unanswered, roughly 1,100 more LA County residents lose their coverage. One in five of them is a child. Clinics close their doors. Families put off the appointment, ration the prescription, and end up in an emergency room that is more crowded and worse funded than the year before. The cost of doing nothing is not measured in budget lines. It is measured in neighbors who get sicker because no one stood up for them.

California has always been the answer to that pressure. As the nation's largest state and a longtime leader in expanding healthcare to its people, California has repeatedly stood as a counterweight when the federal government moves to strip care away. When Washington pulls back, California steps forward, and when this administration overreaches, the state has met it in the courts and in our communities. That is the tradition the Medi-Cal Votes Project carries on.

We are organizing the voters who will keep California standing as that counterbalance. Not for one election, but for as long as Trump and his allies treat our healthcare as leverage. The pressure from Washington is relentless. So is our answer.

Healthcare is a human right, and that right is under attack. We are here to build a lasting movement strong enough to protect healthcare today and until our healthcare rights are safe.
